EVALUATION OF COMMERCIAL BROILER FEED AVAILABLE IN THE MARKET OF BANGLADESH
Abstract
An experiment was conducted to assess the commercial broiler feeds by observing physical
characteristics, quantitative analysis of nutrients and extending up to biological trials with Cobb-500
broiler chicks for a period of 35 days. Five commercial broiler feed samples were collected from
leading five feed mills. Significant variation was found in the ME, CF, Ash and Ca contents in both
broiler starter and finisher ration. Result showed that the quality of commercial feeds collected from
the nearby local market of selected feed mills T1, T2 and T3 (Nourish, Aftab & Quality) appeared to
be comparatively better than those procured from T4 and T5 (Biswas & Advance) feed mills. The
body weight of birds fed on commercial feeds from day-old to 35 days of age differed significantly
(P<0.01). The highest body weight of broiler was observed in T2 dietary group which was
statistically (P<0.01) similar to T1 and the lowest body weight was recorded in T5 group. Highest feed
intake was recorded inT2 whereas lowest in T4 group. Significantly (P<0.05) higher FCR value was
observed in T5group which indicated lowest feed conversion efficiency whereas, lowest FCR value
was observed in the bird of T2 group which indicated highest feed conversion efficiency.
Survivability percent of bird did not differ significantly among diets. Total cost of production did
not differ significantly among supplied commercial feeds. It is evident from the results that highest
profit was obtained of birds in T2 group which was similar in T1 and T3 group but lowest profit was
found in T5 group which was similar to T4 group. The results of this experiment from both nutritional
and biological trail of broilers gave an impression that commercial feeds supplied by the feed mills
T1, T2 and T3 seemed to be better than those feeds of T4 and T5commercial feeds for the profitable
production of commercial broiler.
