Study on growth performance and feed efficiency of crossbred heifer at different ages in Government dairy farm, Sherpur, Bogra.
Abstract
An experiment was conducted to investigate the growth performance and feed conversion of
crossbred heifer at different ages of govt. farm level in sherpur under Bogra district. Twelve
female crossbred animals of different ages were fed concentrated mixture, rice straw and
Napier grass at the rate of 2% of live weight. Napier grass and rice straw were offered at the
ratio of 1:1. The concentrate mixture was provided at the rate of 1% of their body weight.
Feed intake, feed conversion ratio and growth performances were measured. It was found
that DM content was higher in concentrate mixture and rice straw and lower in Napier grass.
The OM was higher in Napier grass than that of concentrate and rice straw. The CF was
higher in rice straw than that of concentrate and Napier grass. Intake of DM and OM were
differed significantly among the treatment groups. CP intake was higher in 3
trial group
heifer than other groups. Intake of CF was higher in 3
rd
trial group. The final live weight was higher in 4
rd
trial group followed by 2
nd
th
st
, 4
and 1
trial group.
Unit feed DM intake was higher with the advancement of age being lowest in the younger
group. The heifer belongs to 4
th
trial group than 3
rd
nd
st
, 2
and 1
trial group showed higher value of feed conversion
efficiency followed by 3

st
, 2
and 1
trial group respectively.
